Kapor Center for Social Impact will be the partner with Google to address a lack of ethnic and gender diversity in its workforce, Google announced this week, right on the heels of their announcement that only 2% of Googlers are black, 3 percent are Hispanic, and 30 percent are female.
The focus of the partnership is to help Google look at and address issues that may interfere with their recruiting pipeline. In a statement, Mitch Kapor, chair of the Kapor Center, said “The best entrepreneurs see big problems and create new solutions. Typically, they develop products that address a gap from their lived experience. By not proactively embracing diverse talent, Silicon Valley is leaving out entire markets that could yield untapped revenue.”
The Kapor/Google collaboration will focus on the following issues:
- Foster an unbiased and inclusive workplace.
- Boost the diversity of the hiring pool by searching for real talent and not just recognizing patterns of familiar candidates as a short-term solution.
- Invest in fixing the pipeline to tech jobs by creating new generations of talent and developing a pipeline that resembles America as a long-term solution.
